Sizing Explained
Standard sizes in the UK vary across different retailers and pattern making companies, making purchasing off
the peg garments difficult for many people. Our garments are made to the personal measures shown in Men's sizing,
Women's sizing and Children's sizing, making it easy for you to identify the correct
size. Of course, not everyone will fit the 'standard' and if is this is you or your teenager, you should choose custom in the size box. We will
contact you to get the measures needed to ensure a perfect fit. Small alterations to the standard sizing, such as height, sleeve length, skirt
lengths are not charged extra. More significant alterations, eg. a gown with a size 12 bust and waist and 16 hip may incur a small pattern
alteration fee. If you have any doubts after consulting the tables, please contact us. We're always happy to help and advise, saving you
unecessary expense that could be incurred by ordering the wrong size.
Measuring Tips
- Ask a good friend to help - it's hard to measure yourself.
- Tie a piece of string around your waist as a point of reference. If in doubt, your waist is the smallest measure around
the middle of your body. Don't go by waistbands on trousers or skirts - these often have a fashion cut that has no bearing on an historical
garment.
- When measuring around the body, the tape measure should be snug, but not tight.
- Bust/chest measures are taken around the fullest part of your bust/chest - make sure the measure is straight across your
back
- Hip measures are taken around the widest part of your seat - remember to remove wallets, keys & mobile phones!
- Sleeve lengths are taken from the top of your arm on your shoulder bone down to your wrist in a straight line
